Custom built does not have to mean expensive.
Typically, I am asked to make something custom for one of two reasons; the design is not readily available, or the client's space is not standard. The design process starts with a meeting where we discuss your ideas, needs, types of wood, finish colors and I take detailed measurements.
It's equally important to know how the piece will be used. I love to suggest helpful uses of lost space such as DVD storage pull-outs from behind a flat screen TV.
Another important factor is cost. Stain grade hardwoods or paint grade materials? Raised panel cabinet doors or flat paneled doors? I can help you navigate through all the choices using techniques that can save on costs without sacrificing quality.
At the shop, all your measurements are transferred to a computer program that allows me to create everything from scaled drawings to my material cut sheets. All materials are plotted to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
Scaled drawings similar to mini blueprints are emailed to you for design approval. As this stage changes, additions and corrections are easily handled with just a few simple clicks of the mouse.
Once you are happy with a design, I can then work out a quote and a completion date.
I can even email progress photos from my shop as the project moves along.
